Everything you need to know about Japanese auction reports — grades, terminology, inspection codes, and how we source the finest vehicles for the Malaysian market.
Why Japan?
The World's Most Trusted Auto Auctions
Japan operates the most rigorous and transparent vehicle auction system in the world. With over 150 auction houses running weekly — USS Tokyo, TAA Yokohama, HAA Kobe — each vehicle undergoes a meticulous physical inspection before being graded by certified independent inspectors.
As a licensed AP holder, Public GO my has direct bidding access to these auctions, allowing us to source exactly the vehicle you want at the best possible price, with full documentation transparency.
Condition Rating
Understanding Auction Grades
Every vehicle is rated by an independent inspector. The grade directly reflects the overall condition of the car — both exterior and mechanical.
Grade S — Showroom New
BEST CONDITIONVirtually flawless. No scratches, dents, or interior wear. These are typically near-zero-mileage demonstrators or dealer stock vehicles. Extremely rare and command a significant premium.
Grade 5 / 5A — Excellent
HIGHLY RECOMMENDEDNear-perfect condition with only the most minor surface imperfections. No dents, no deep scratches. Interior immaculate. Grade 5A indicates the car is even closer to S standard. Our most commonly sourced grade for premium buyers.
Grade 4 / 4A — Very Good
VALUE PICKLight scratches or minor dents that are easily repairable through PDR or minor paintwork. Interior clean with light wear. An excellent value grade that offers strong condition at a more accessible price point.
Grade 3.5 — Good
Visible scratches, small dents, or minor rust spots. Requires some attention but mechanically sound. Suitable for buyers on a tighter budget who are comfortable with some cosmetic remediation post-import.
Grade 3 — Average
REPAIR NEEDEDNoticeable cosmetic damage. Multiple scratches, larger dents, possible rust. Mechanically the engine and drivetrain may still be sound. Public GO my does not typically source below Grade 4 for our standard inventory.
Grade R — Repaired / Modified
PROCEED WITH CAUTIONThe vehicle has undergone prior accident repair. While repairs may have been done professionally, full disclosure is provided. We strongly advise buyers to review the inspection sheet carefully for any R-grade vehicle.
Report Literacy
How to Read an Auction Sheet
Japanese auction sheets use a standardised diagram to mark every defect on the vehicle's body. Here's how to decode them.

Defect Codes
Severity Scale (Numbers)
Each defect symbol is paired with a number (1–5) indicating the severity of the damage.
Example: "A2" = scratch, small size. "U4" = large dent, significant damage.
